41. One Girl. One Journey – Time for Take Off

Figuratively and literally. It was time to take off.

March 7, 2014 – Left for Mexico.

I stayed for a few months.  Got a remote  job, so I had money coming in.  Wow.  Thinking back now as I write this, I remember feeling so scared and alone. It was not something I wanted to do – there was little excitement –  but it was something I had to do.

This gave me the time to spend time alone with my thoughts and really analyze what I wanted out of this world. I studied religion, politics, I wrote in my journal, I wrote pieces of work that were fictional and nonfictional. I kept a journal of my  thoughts, ideas, poems, songs… I enjoyed learning another language, culture. I made friends with local people and made very strong connections. I took a painting course and finished a beautiful religious piece ( it was stolen but at least I have pictures), I went to alot of music events, and I even met a producer and we created a song together. I have the first recording. Before we had a chance to finish the song, he left to move back to Spain. But it was a very cool experience. It´s called Fall in the Night. I was really excited to work with this guy. He was so talented. I´m disappointed we didn´t have the chance to finish it. He left so abruptly, I didn´t even have a chance to get his contact info.

2018 – I also connected with a guy who I had heard play at a cantina. He was an amazing guitar player and I really liked his sound. I sent him my original songs and we decided to get a set list together – our original songs and some covers to perform. We had a great time during our rehearsals. He was a great guy and we hit it off. We became fast friends. As we got more serious about our music, I began to question whether I should continue. It was alot of work and time and effort – him learning my original songs, rehearsing, figuring out what covers to do, even the travelling back and forth to his place for the rehearsals was a journey because I had to take the bus. He was a veterinarian, so he could only rehearse at night. By the time I got there, it would be around 7:30. I had to take a bus to the center of the city, then a taxi to his place. By the time we finished talking and got into rehearsing, it was almost as though we had to stop. The bus stopped running at 10:00 p.m., so I had to take a taxi back to the bus station around 9:30 p.m. It left us with little quality time to rehearse. We did that every week for a few months. I wasn´t sure how long I was going to stay in Mexico. My Mom wasn´t doing well, I was missing my kids, and I didn´t want to use him or waste his time. I talked to him, and he said that we could just have fun with it – what happens happens, but for me I felt it would be a waste of my time if I was just going to end up quitting. So, I decided to stop rehearsing. We never got a chance to perform live, but it was a great experience.
